The city on Earth by that name is in bondage.

The Jerusalem from above is free. Where is it? In Heaven. New Jerusalem "comes down out of heaven from my God", Jesus said.

What happens to the old Jerusalem, then.... the one we today see in bondage on Earth?



Based on these verses, it looks like the earthly Jerusalem shall be mostly destroyed by the nations that wage war against it with their armies. Then the Lord returns to set his feet on the Mount of Olives, where he once preached his sermon as the man Jesus.

Zechariah 14:3-4 KJV | Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
