Machaerus, Jordan ~ What was special about this location?
Josephus identifies Machaerus as the place of John Baptist's imprisonment and execution.
The Fortress (Castle) of Machaerus was destroyed, but a couple pillars are still there, with rubble, on a hill where a castle once was. God did not allow the site to continue to prosper after John Baptist's murder.
John the Baptist's tomb

Sebastia, West Bank, Palestine - The site of the old Samaria, the former capital of the kingdom of Israel.
Whether any of his remains are actually at this site is debated. The tomb is far away from where he was executed.
